Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assumes accountability for maintaining the Cardiac Testing Department, adheres to the operating and capital budgets with guidance from the director/manager, and performs general business activities, which support efficient, cost effective services for the Cardiac Testing Department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assumes responsibility, authority and accountability for the Cardiac Testing Department.
  • Provides care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Develops and implements department objectives in collaboration with staff.
  • Maintains open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Presents a positive image to community and professional contacts.
  • Promotes staff compliance of objectives and the implementation of procedures and policies.
  • Assists in enforcing and providing education pertaining to all regulatory requirements including Joint Commission Standards, OSHA, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.
  • Assists Department Manager with supervision of staff, including performance evaluations, competency coordination, timekeeping, disciplinary actions, hiring, job training, counseling and terminations in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Promotes professionalism with the department, hospital, and community; acts as a role model.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees as requested.
  • Monitors the physical environment of the department.
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the Cardiac Testing Department with other areas of the department and hospital to insure and maintain patient care.
  • Responsible for the management of work assignments, schedules, development and orientation of the staff.
  • Participates in the purchase/maintenance of equipment and contracts/meetings with vendors.
  • Attends hospital and department meetings and in-services.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends, new equipment/procedures and informs manager/director.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient/personnel information.
  • Manages efficient workflow of the department.
  • Mentor to new employees
  • Develops/maintains competencies for respective area
  • Travels to all Iowa Heart Center Ultrasound departments as needed.
  • Operate required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Minimum of two years of Cardiovascular experience
  • Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
