CHI Good Samaritan in Kearney, NE is seeking a strong leader to join our surgical services team. Our hospital is a Level II trauma center and has 11 operating rooms, 2 endo suites, C-Section suite, a cytoscopy and procedure room. Surgical Services operates 24/7 and on average completes approximately 6,300 procedures a year along with 9,100 patients seen in the pre-op clinic. You would be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining strategies and initiatives for the Periop Department (inpatient and outpatient). Areas supported include but not limited to the following:   Operating Room, Pre-Operative Care unit, Post-Operative Care unit, Anesthesia Services, GI unit, campus-specific services such as infusions, blood transfusions and injections performed in the Perioperative unit and Sterile Processing (in partnership with Sterile Processing leader).

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Has the authority to interview, hire, orient, terminate, promote, train and conduct performance evaluations.
2. Assigns day-to-day work activities; directs the functional and technical job performance of team members.
3. Allocates and directs staffing needs to meet patient, unit and departmental needs, and collaborates with others to ensure overall staffing needs are met.
4. Manages performance including: goal-setting, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, recognize, developing skills and addressing performance issues related to work and our Commitments using corrective action.
5. Leads strategy, growth and quality initiatives for both departments, utilizing regulatory knowledge for both areas as separate functions.
6. Develops, coordinates and manages operating systems, operational standardization, service standards and communication methods in line with system policies and processes.
7. Ensures optimal utilization of department resources through capital and operational budget planning, implementation of systems and practices that achieve defined objectives, and reviewing benchmark data.
8. Assures appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, federal, state and agency laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards.
9. Provides high quality surgical services at reasonable costs by directing the programs, policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility. Develops, monitors and ensure implementation of evidence-based clinical standards of nursing practice.
10. Works closely with surgeons and anesthesia leadership to coordinate delivery of high quality perioperative care.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Required.
• Current Registered Nurse License in Nebraska or Iowa
• BLS certification is required upon hire.  
• A minimum of five years of progressive work experience, with at least two years of management experience in a perioperative services environment is preferred.
• Must posess strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, nursing administration, applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and professional strandards; strong project management skills; good communication skills; good strategic planning skills; strong change management skills; must demonstrate person traits of a high level of motivation; team orientation; professionalism; trust; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
