  • Shall possess the personal characteristics necessary for successfully fulfilling his/her responsibilities. These characteristics include good communication skills, initiative, and attention to detail, flexibility, and cooperation.
  • Should demonstrate competency in all Pharmacy Technician I skills. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency and has responsibility for:
    • Accurately  performs pharmaceutical calculations on injectable medications with a narrow therapeutic index
    • Preparing IV admixtures using aseptic technique, following USP797/800 requirements, using LAWs or CAIs
    • Preparing all batch medications and documenting appropriately on IV compounding log
    • Accurately labels and assigns expiration dates on IV admixtures prepared
    • Managing inventory, ordering meds and supplies based on patient needs, managing par levels
    • Managing expired IV medications, returns and credits
    • Monitoring and documentation of environmental conditions
    • Maintaining LAWs and CAIs according to manufacturer specifications
    • Performing cleaning procedures for LAWs and CAIs, IV work surfaces and IV rooms as defined by USP797/800, accurately documenting daily, weekly, and monthly requirements
    • Appropriate use of PPE
  • Must have training in:  applicable EHR, pharmacy automation, sterile compounding, and computer applications including Microsoft Word. 



  • High school diploma or GED, Metropolitan Test or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Program, Associates Degree, or Equivalent Experience preferred.
  • Biennial completion of 20 hours of ACPE-certified, Pharmacy Technician Specific Training (pharmacy interns exempt)
  • Excellent knowledge of drug names desired with the expectation of continuing education on new drugs
  • Completion of IV Admixture Training Program, with successful completion of quality controls such as media fill, fingertip testing, etc


  • Pharmacy experience required (pharmacy interns exempt). Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred. 

Licensure or Certification:

  • AR Board of Pharmacy
  • National Certification
