Responsibilities

The certified athletic trainer is responsible for managing the health care of participating athletes. This includes first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation programs and medical referrals.

 

  • Participate in daily practices. (August through May)
  • Be on campus Saturday mornings during football season.
  • Help coaches with proper taping techniques.
  • Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events
  • Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness to determine if physician referral is necessary for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Evaluate, splint, tape, provide first aid and life support to the injured athelete.
  • Evaluate the athletes’ readiness to play and provide participation clearances when warranted.
  • Organize athletic participation physicals.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Keep athletic training room safe, clean, and organized.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches and other team personnel.
  • Recruit and start student trainer program.
  • Develop and implement Sports Performance Camp.
  • Maintain appropriate general treatment orders to be received annually and approved by the team physician.
  • Act as a liaison between family physicians and specialists, athletes and their parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and documentations for sports injuries treated by a physician.
  • Assist with the scheduling of athletes to the appropriate physician or health care provider for the type of injury needing to be cared for.
  • Perform wellness consultations and in-service education
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a budget for the athletic training program.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, Exercise Physiology
  • National Certification (ATC) through the Board of Certification, Inc
  • State licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Minimum three (3) years athletic training experience in team sports
