Responsibilities

Dual role as Technician and Sonography student combines department technician responsibilities and department specific sonographer clinical training.  Contributes to the safe, efficient operation of the Heart Institute by assisting the physicians, RNs and Sonographers in performing diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures and report dissemination in Heart Institute Non-Invasive Services.    Performs designated procedures and tasks as assigned as kloappropriate for demonstrated competencies as assigned.  Completes department competency based ultrasound imaging training.

 

  1.  Gives direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the sonographer or RN’s.
  2. Prepares and sets up for all procedures ensuring that the correct equipment and supplies are available during the case.
  3. Applies monitoring equipment, obtains vital signs, documents patient data and information as appropriate for various procedures.
  4. Ability to assist as needed with equipment and supplies as appropriate.
  5. Knowledge of all complex and therapeutic procedures performed in the department.
  6. Ability to set up table, instruments and supplies according to the type of case. Assists with room turnover.
  7. Able to recognize and communicate any patient issues to RN or physician during the procedure.
  8. Maintains supplies and stocks procedure rooms and travel carts during down time.
  9. Assists with tracking locations and maintaining inventory of equipment.
  10. Disinfects and cleans scopes and equipment according to hospital policy and manufacturer guidelines.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
  12. Manages reports and expedites completion and distribution.
  13. Completes department log books and schedules.
  14. Performs 12 lead EKG’s.
  15. Processes EKG’s in MUSE system.
  16. Completes competency based training for ultrasound imaging under direction of the Imaging Coordinator.
  17. Performs ultrasound studies under supervision of credentialed sonographer for specified modality.

 

Qualifications

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required and preferred):

  • Associate Degree in an Allied Health Field or a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in any field of study and meets education requirements needed to sit for credential examinations from organizations accepted by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
  • Successful completion of department based competency training and obtaining appropriate sonography credential are required for conversion to an available sonographer position.

Experience (required and preferred):

  •  Patient care in a procedure, critical care, or emergency room is preferred.
