Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with diverse and multicultural team members, patients, nursing unit staff, and other hospital staff members.
  • Adheres to department dress code: black slacks, black slip-resistant shoes, company provided gray polo shirt.  All clothing must be clean and wrinkle-free.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, inservices, and continuing education programs.
  • Adapts to and embraces new departmental equipment, technology, processes, and procedures.
  • Participates in all required safety, security, and infection control programs. Demonstrates work practices consistent with MBO and department-specific safety, security, and infection control policies.
  • Maintains a professional attitude with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff.
  • Maintains a high standard of sanitation in area of responsibility to comply with hospital policies, state and local inspectors, JCAHO and CMS.
  • Takes care in use of hospital equipment and reports any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment immediately. Returns and stores all equipment in proper areas.
  • Ensures safe and sanitary transportation of food carts to and from all receiving entities. Incumbent must adhere to all applicable driving laws in their location.
  • Loads and unloads food carts at various pick up points using lift tailgate or docks as provided. Secures all carts with load locks before putting truck in motion.
  • Plans daily work schedule that will best meet the needs of the department and ensures high efficiency. Driver performs duties within timelines established by Division Manager.
  • Delivers and retrieves carts from designated areas at specified times.
  • Refuels trucks as necessary. Checks basic fluid levels, including:  engine oil, transmission fluid (if truck is equipped with accessible dipstick), coolant, windshield wiper fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid.  Monitors truck gauges and reports anomalies.
  • Continually monitors operation of truck and immediately reports any mechanical issues to the Division Manager. May also be asked to contact truck lease company directly.
  • Sanitizes truck bed after dirty cart retrieval, before any clean carts are loaded into truck.
  • Maintains cleanliness of truck interior including windows, trash removal, etc.
  • Performs other duties in the department as requested.

Qualifications

Experience

1-3 years experience operating vehicles similar to department trucks with:  less than 26,000 LB gross vehicle weight rating and equipped with air brakes.

Education

Completed high school or equivalent knowledge level preferred.

Licensure, Certification, and Registration

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license in state of operation. For Omaha metro campuses, Iowa driver’s licenses are permissible.
  • Must be approved to drive by MBO’s motor vehicle insurer.
  • Must be able to pass the Department of Transportation physical upon hire and prior to expiration.
