Overview

HAH_MercyOne  MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit, Catholic medical centers in Des Moines, West Des Moines, Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total)  –  along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care, pediatric, internal medicine and specialty clinics. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893, MercyOne Central Iowa has the longest continually operating hospital in Des Moines and is also one of the largest employers in the state, with more than 7,000 employees and a medical staff of more than 1,000 physicians and allied health associates. Responsibilities

 

Assists with the overall management and operation of MercyOne Gift House & Flowers and West Des Moines Brew and Gifts. Supervises the gift shop salesclerks, West Des Moines Brew staff and the Auxiliary coordinator. Responsible for the maintaining the budget and financial assets of the Gift House and Flowers and West Des Moines Brew including daily sales, daily deposits, monthly billing and accounts payable/receivable. Responsible for the day-to-day operations including merchandise purchasing, pricing, stocking, inventory control, scheduling staff, maintaining timecards, cash deposits, and volunteer relations.  Works with department director in conducting departmental meetings, training sessions and visits with vendors as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understand the philanthropic mission of the MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary.
  • Manage retail staff, including salesclerks and Auxiliary administrative coordinator.
  • Meet financial objectives by maintaining annual budget, planning and scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Motivate team to sell product and auxiliary memberships.
  • Formulate pricing policies and determine monthly specials.
  • Ensure accurate pricing of merchandise.
  • Identify current and future product trends that appeal to customers.
  • Handle customer questions, complaints and issues.
  • Oversee daily operations, sales, deposits, monthly billing and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Utilize technology to report and analyze sales.
  • Interview, hire, train, evaluate, supervise and schedule paid staff and volunteers.
  • Provide superior customer skills when relating with customers, staff, visitors and patients.
  • Designate all staff duties and assignments.
  • Hold workshops, training sessions and staff meetings as needed.
  • Follow the policies and procedures for the gift shop and monitors volunteer and staff compliance at the gift shop and at other locations as needed.
  • Attend merchandise markets as requested by department director.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the gift shop as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, seasonally appropriate, and adequately stocked, customer-friendly store
  • Rotate merchandise display presentation so it is customer enticing. 
  • Responsible for all buying within budget and with approval of department director.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum two-year degree required, degree in merchandising or marketing preferred.
  • Minimum of one year or more in the retail management preferred.
  • One year or more managing staff required
