    • Performs transcription and editing tasks such as proofreading and insertion of supplemental information into pathology reports.  
  • Reviews and applies if necessary, billing codes on each pathology case with understanding of common pathology billing protocols and codes.
  • Prepares and maintains quality metrics related to regulatory and contractual requirements such as clinical correlations, peer reviews, etc. for the pathology group.
  • Provides clerical support to the Pathology Department. Processes incoming and outgoing materials, email, and mail. Maintains accurate records, including legal and confidential files.
  • Prepares slides, blocks and specimens for referral testing and tracks completion and receipt of reports. Places orders in laboratory information system as requested by pathologists.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing knowledge of the Pathology Department.
    • Prepares reports, forms and/or other material from copy or from verbal instructions for tumor board presentations and other meetings.
    • Efficiently operates office equipment and machines (i.e., personal computer, copy machine, fax, calculator, telephone, etc.). Maintains office equipment.
  • Utilizes LEAN principles/productivity standards.
  • Serves as liaison between the pathologists and the customer.
  • Prepares reports for rural hospitals, frozen sections, etc.
  • Prepares and scans sheets for professional billing.



  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • One year of medical transcriptionist experience in a pathology setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and medical terminology required.
  • Anatomic pathology billing codes, procedures, and testing of laboratory pathology preferred.
