CHI Living Communities, based in Toledo, Ohio has become one of the fastest growing Catholic organizations serving older adults in the United States. CHI Living Communities was formed in 1998 as Franciscan Living Communities as a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio. 


The Senior Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall operations of CHI Living Communities.  To ensure the success of the ministry, this position provides direction, oversight, and consultation to the Vice President of Operations, Director of Clinical Services and Director of Communications to promote the mission, vision and values while achieving operational excellence.  The Senior Vice President of Operations participates in the strategic planning process and collaborates with the executive leadership team to ensure the delivery of exceptional care and regulatory compliance. 



Position Summary:


CHI Living Communities has an opportunity for a proven leader with 10 or more years of direct operational experience in senior living to join our ministry as Senior Vice President of Operations.  The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Establishing clinical and operational practices of excellence in care and service for all residents.
  • Ensuring the mission, culture, and values of our faith based senior living ministry are modeled daily in our decisions and actions.

  • Fostering positive relationships with business partners and vendors.
  • Developing comprehensive strategies and goals for operations.

Essential Job Specific Duties/Responsibilities


  1. Responsible and accountable for ensuring all operations align with the mission, vision and values of the ministry of CHI Living Communities
    1. Promotes a culture that supports positive relationships with residents, families and employees
    2. Establishes operational and clinical policies that provide the highest quality care and industry leading outcomes while modeling the mission, vision and values
    3. Ensures a best workplace environment conducive to high employee engagement and retention


  1. Responsible and accountable for ensuring clinical care as well as customer service at all campuses.
    1. Directs daily operations of the ministry
    2. Oversees executives in operational, clinical, culinary, and communications disciplines


  1. Responsible and accountable for achieving established quality targets
    1. Collaborates with Vice President of Operations and Director of Clinical Services to achieve and exceed quality goals indicative of excellent care.
    2. Creates comprehensive goals for clinical and operational performance.


  1. Responsible and accountable for achieving established financial targets.
    1. Collaborates with the Vice President of Finance to establish annual budget
    2. Provides oversight to ensure effective and efficient campus operations


  1. Participates in the strategic planning process for CHI Living Communities
    1. Collaborates with executive leadership team to establish comprehensive goals for business growth.
    2. Oversees capital projects and renovations for all campuses.


  1. Collaborates with executive leadership team to ensure smooth acquisitions, divestures, and corporate alliances for the senior living division.

  2. Creates/maintains positive relationships with partners and vendors.

  3. Participates in quarterly campus advisory council meetings.

  4. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skills.

  5. Prepares and submits reports on campus operations as required.

  6. Attends and/or conducts meetings, as required, to carry out responsibilities.

  7. Promotes the philosophy and values of CHI Living Communities throughout the ministry.

  8. Demonstrates respect and compassion in every interaction with employees, residents, families, and visitors
  9. Maintains confidentiality to protect organizational growth.

  10. Additional duties as may be required.

  11. Satisfies all educational in-service requirements mandated by CHI Living Communities, the department, external accrediting, and regulatory agencies.
    1. Attends all mandatory in-service programs.
    2. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
    3. Completes yearly online education program by deadline.
    4. Attends employee meetings on a regular basis.


In addition to the essential job specific duties listed above, the Senior Vice President of Operations shall be required to perform all duties (essential and non-essential) in a manner consistent with the mission statement and core values of CHI Living Communities and will be evaluated on such basis.  Furthermore, every employee must abide by all campus, departmental, and safety policies, rules, and regulations.



The ideal candidate has experience in all levels of senior living. Successful candidates must possess excellent communication and analytical skills, up-to-date knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements, an active nursing home administrator license, and a passion for living our mission and values.


The ability to travel and provide multi-state operational oversight in all of our markets is required.  Ohio residence preferred but not required.

Education:       Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Licensed Nursing Home Administrator required.


Experience:     At least 10 years of direct operational experience in executive leadership role with SNF, Memory Care, AL, and IL levels of care.
