Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall implementation, provision and coordination of addiction services offered to patients in the program. Will collaborate with primary care providers, referring physicians, and collaborates with Chair of Department of Psychiatry or designee as necessary. This collaboration may occur telephonically, electronically or on site. All the criteria based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to policies, procedures and guidelines within this document, Partial Hospitalization Program and St. Alexius Medical Center

                                                                                           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • EVALUATION: Completes the addiction/chemical dependency assessment of the patient and documents the results appropriately in the chart according to departmental policies and procedures. Assess family history and dynamics and need for further intervention.
  • TREATMENT PLANNING: Develop treatment plan, including goals and interventions appropriate to the age of the patient population served. Coordinates treatment plan with the patient, and as appropriate, their family/significant other(s), involved agencies and the multi-disciplinary team. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward the attainment of goals and modifies the treatment as needed. Facilitates family meetings/therapy.

  • TREATMENT: Demonstrates ability and knowledge to provide individual, group and family therapy. Selects age appropriate treatment interventions and documents according to program policy.
    Enhances knowledge, develops skills and uses talents in order to reach one’s fullest potential.
  • Attends at least 50% of the unit based continuing education sessions encompassing all ages of patients served, excluding mandatory certifications and mandatory training.
  • Attends staff meetings and supervisory sessions as scheduled 90% of time.
  • Attains 90% of professional goals identified at the last performance appraisal.
  • Learns and educates staff about new treatment intervention.
  • Provides Community Education (interviews, presentations, etc.).
  • 90% of unit (PHP) goals achieved.
  • Group notes completed within 3 days of group.
  • Assists with denials and appeals process.
  • Develops innovative programming opportunities.
  • Participates in marketing PHP.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor of Science in Addictions Counseling
Licensure: Licensed as an Addictions Counselor by the ND Board of Addiction Counseling examiners

Experience: One year experience, or a Master's degree may substitute for one year experience

Skills:  Working knowledge of basic clinical skills in delivery of patient care.  Aware of State requirements for facility license, working knowledge of program development and implementation. Must be able to communicate, maintain records and develop reports.  Must be able to use computer, keyboard and telephone.
Interpersonal Skills:  Good communication skills are necessary because of the constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors and medical center staff.  Accountable for own conduct, promotes and supports positive working relationships among the staff, between disciplines, departments, patients, families and visitors. Maintains confidentiality.

Physical Effort: Ability to move light weights. Ability to move freely throughout the medical center. Ability to implement non-violent crisis intervention skills.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt/Exempt

Other:   Limited exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Limited exposure to infectious diseases.  Able to perform effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
