The Physical Therapist Assistant is a licensed professional whose primary responsibility is to administer physical therapy treatment programs for patients, as outlined by the supervising Physical Therapist.  S/he also administers physical agents utilized in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as directed by the Supervising Therapist. Can direct nonprofessional personnel assigned to assist with patient therapy programs.  Communicates patient progress to the Physical Therapist and documents response to the treatment program. Assists the Coordinator in departmental planning.


  • Administers treatments to patients following an identified treatment plan, determined by the Supervising Therapist, using techniques in a safe and acceptable manner.
  • Follows through with the Home Exercise Program established by supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Documents daily record and flow sheets in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with Physical Therapist in regard to patient treatment and progress.
  • Supervises and communicates with support staff regarding patient care activities to assure safety and well-being of patient. Assists technicians, as needed, with patient’s set-ups to assure patient care.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, and objectives, concerning quality assurance, safety, environmental conditions and infection control.
  • Works collaboratively with nonprofessional staff, Supervising Physical Therapist, Rehabilitation Therapy Coordinator and the Operations Director, Rehabilitation Therapy Clinics, regarding departmental needs.
  • Maintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient and other hospital information in line with the CHI Health Mission statement.


Preferred but not required.  New graduate accepted.


Require a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant School with an associate’s degree. Must be licensed in the State of Nebraska or Iowa as a PTA.  License must be held in the state in which you provide services.
