  • The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice following the guidelines of the State of Texas Board of Examiners for Physical Therapy. The PTA delivers quality therapy services to patients by performing treatment plans and goals to maximize functional outcomes. The PTA actively participates in discharge planning and implements the treatment program. Services are delivered within the framework of an interdisciplinary team approach, including significant others, and the patient. These services are delivered in a manner to comply with St. Joseph Regional Rehabilitation Center's mission, ethical standards, policies and procedures.


  1. Patient Care - administers appropriate treatments to patients. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in: therapeutic exercises, modalities, and manual techniques, rehab equipment and transfers, wound care to meet industry standards and optimize the quality of patient care.
  2. Communication - fosters communication with other therapists, physicians, nurses, volunteers, patients and families, and other hospital personnel to establish department rapport; attends and provides quality input to team conferences, departmental meetings and other hospital meetings
  3. Supervision - instruction and supervision in patient care of PT assistants, physical therapy technicians and student affiliates in a respectful, courteous and consistent manner; also assists in performance appraisals of current/new personnel or students to foster a learning environment.
  4. Documentation - maintains timely and accurate medical records, records legibly in patient charts, and completes reports in an organized, thorough and timely manner to allow for continuity of care.
  5. Professional Development - attends department and hospital in-services; attends one seminar/conference annually in order to assist in department CQI processes
  6. Training - assist in teaching/training of new/current personnel, and student affiliates.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organization`s needs.
