Job Summary:


Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is an internationally renowned medical center with one of the most experienced and expert stroke programs in the country. BNI is home to the Petznick Stroke Center, caring for more stroke victims than any other center in the southwestern United States. Our team of accomplished physicians and scientific investigators serves as a destination center of excellence for stroke care and research discovery. Our Stroke Program has also treated more patients with tPA (tissue plasminogen activator), the only FDA-approved "clot-busting" drug, than any hospital in the United States.


Our dedicated stroke team is committed to providing excellent patient care, conducting research into the prevention and treatment of stroke, and educating our community about risk factors. The Petznick Stroke Center, Research Program portfolio is a diverse portfolio which includes many NIH Funded StrokeNet Clinical Trials, Industry Sponsored Clinical Trials as well as Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials.


The Research Assistant holds a key role in supporting Investigators, Research Nurses and Research Coordinators in the execution of research protocols.  Responsibilities will vary based on the needs of the RN/Research Coordinator and participant but could include but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of all regulatory requirements and institutional requirements when conducting the study protocol(s).
  • Support RN/Coordinator in preparing for upcoming visits including scheduling and document creation.
  • Coordinates research monitor visits and responds to all data queries in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and/or performs a variety of procedures/tests including, but not limited to, laboratory tests/phlebotomy, vital signs, ECG/EKGs, as well as other needs as outlined in the study protocol(s).
  • Obtains medical history, medical records and all other procedures outlined in the study protocol(s) within the allowed timelines.
  • Responds to patient inquires via phone or in person in a timely manner.
  • Processing and shipments of samples collected as outlined in the study protocol(s).
  • Quality Control of executed study documents.
  • Completes case report forms, data entry, and maintains source documentation for all study participants.
  • Tracks and deviations to the Investigator as well as the sponsor and IRB in accordance to their requirements.
  • Organizes, maintains and orders all study related supplies for each research study being conducted.
  • Creates and maintains recruitment reference materials such as physician pocket cards.  

Workload including a majority of StrokeNet clinical trials as well as Industry Sponsored and Investigator Initiated.

  • HS diploma and related college or certification course work required.
  • Previous training relating to HIPAA and the use of protected health information required.
  • Previous experience in a health care setting required.
  • Basic computer skills required.


  • Associates degree preferred.

  • Previous clinical research experience preferred.
