Overview

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional counseling services to students with academic, personal, and emotional needs.
  • Completes formalized intakes, assessments, and interventions. Completes and maintains well-documented counseling session notes.
  • Provides mental health and crisis counseling to students and suggests referral services.
  • Provides students with academic support.  Identifies and recommends appropriate services designed to address students’ academic needs. Creates student education plans and monitors students’ academic goals.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, facilitation, and evaluation of student success seminars, workshops, and informational materials.
  • Provides consultation support to faculty, staff, and administration regarding student concerns.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related area.
  • Professional licensure in mental health counseling or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience in mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability with assessment, diagnosis, and interventions for issues frequently faced by college students.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with diverse populations including first generation and low-income students.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
  • Experience in counseling for higher education students preferred.
