The Medical Assistant – Registered plays a key role in supporting both the medical and nursing staff by performing a range of clerical and clinical tasks. Responsibilities include coordinating patient and provider schedules, managing patient flow, and assisting providers with various clinical tasks to enhance patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate patient flow by rooming patients, taking medical histories, and gathering necessary documentation such as last visit notes and lab results.
  • Prepare patients for exams, treatments, and procedures by taking vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight. Record and observe patient symptoms.
  • Explain procedures and tests to patients, provide test results, and instruct patients on specimen collection. May perform waived tests such as glucose or urine dip.
  • Maintain accurate medication and immunization records.
  • Ensure exam rooms are cleaned and organized, sterilize equipment, and manage biohazard disposal while adhering to Standard Precautions. Responsible for autoclave wrapping.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

    • Required:
      • High School diploma or GED.
      • Six months of experience in a medical office/clinic or completion of an accredited Medical Administrative Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant program.
      • Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) certification through the State of Washington, sponsored by Virginia Mason, required within 60 days of hire.
      • Knowledge of medical terminology.
      • Professional demeanor with a positive and upbeat attitude, along with strong communication skills.
      • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication abilities.
      • Detail-oriented, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
      • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patients, and physicians.
    • Preferred:
      • Associate's degree or equivalent.
