Responsibilities

The Department of Surgery at Northridge Hospital Medical Center is seeking experienced Sr. Surgical Technologists to join our team,  The Sr. Surgical Technologist plays a critical and collaborative role in ensuring optimal patient care and surgical success. This position requires a highly skilled, adaptable, and proactive professional committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Anticipates Surgeon Needs: Demonstrates advanced knowledge of surgical procedures to proactively anticipate and fulfill the surgeon's needs, precisely passing instruments, supplies, medications, equipment, and implants throughout the procedure.
  • Aseptic Technique & Sterile Field Management: Adheres rigorously to and monitors others for principles of aseptic technique, maintaining the integrity of the sterile field during all phases of surgery.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Skillfully manages unexpected and emergent situations, adapting quickly to changing patient care needs and ensuring patient safety.
  • Resource Management: Identifies, prepares, and manages appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment based on identified surgical procedures. Follows doctor's preference cards (DCPs) diligently, minimizing waste and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Accountability & Compliance: Ensures all instruments, equipment, and supplies are accurately accounted for post-procedure, strictly adhering to time-out and sponge accounting standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Identifies and processes equipment requiring repair, ensuring proper tagging and submission to BioMed or SPD leadership.
  • Universal Precautions: Delivers patient care with unwavering surgical conscience, consistently applying universal precautions.
  • Team Collaboration: Works seamlessly within the surgical team, operating within the scope of practice and actively participating in time-out procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborative Environment: Contributes to a positive, supportive, and collaborative work environment that promotes learning, empowerment, and mutual respect among staff.
  • Communication & Support: Demonstrates a positive and cooperative demeanor when interacting with all members of the healthcare team. Responds directly to the oversight of patient care provided by the Registered Nurse in conjunction with the surgeon and Anesthesiologist.
  • Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned or requested, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of operating room experience in an acute care setting required with at least three (3) years in an area of specialty required.
  • Must be able to scrub Neuro Vascular Ortho and Spine cases.
  • Open Heart procedures preferred.
  • CVOR Experience required or willing to train upon hire.
  • Successful completion of an accredited/approved Surgical Technician program required.
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • National Board Surgical Technician (CT ST) certification required.
  • LA County Fire Card required.
