Job Summary:
Under the direction of a licensed provider (e.g. RN, Physician) and as a member of a Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) multi-disciplinary team, this job is responsible for serving as the admissions, discharges and transfers (ADT) nurse for patients across the acute care setting in accordance with established patient care standards and applicable regulatory requirements. An incumbent provides patient care, within scope of licensure, during the transition points of admission, discharge and transfer in support of efforts to optimize patient throughput. Key responsibilities include completion of nursing admission assessments, facilitating preparation and discharge of patients and supporting patient
inter-department transfers.
NOTE: Commitment to completing an RN degree is a job requirement and incumbents must produce confirmed acceptance into an accredited RN program within nine months of date of hire to be eligible for continued employment in this position. Successful completion of the RN program is expected within two years of acceptance into the program. Upon receipt of RN licensure, an incumbent will be informed of available RN residency opportunities and no longer continued in this position. If an incumbent is unable to complete an RN program and become licensed, employment in the position will end with two weeks’ notice.
Job Functions:
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs nursing admission assessments on VMFH patients as they are admitted through the Emergency Department, surgical or procedural setting or through the direct admit process. (50%)
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, facilitates patient throughput by supporting the patient discharge process across the acute care setting. (35%)
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, supports inter-unit patient transfers across the acute care setting in order to facilitate throughput and bed availability.
Within scope of practice and under the direction and supervision of an RN, helps to provide nursing care and support to patients and care teams.
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program (or equivalent recognized military training) and successful passage of the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
Licensure/Certification:
Possession of a current Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Current healthcare provider BLS certification.
