Responsibilities

The Lead Registered Nurse leads frontline nursing staff to deliver excellent, safe and quality patient care.  Responsible to see the day-to-day operational and Operating Room department activities.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors patient care for quality through chart audits, reporting of required safety initiatives to state regulatory agencies, and dissemination of results to staff.
  • Personnel Management including addressing behavioral issues, staff coaching, including disciplinary actions, annual staff performance evaluations. Complies and supports change with all CHI policies.
  • Development and maintenance of Perioperative policies/procedures and assures review/revisions are done with timeliness.
  • Maintains and retains core perioperative staff (Nursing, Surgical Techs, CSP, SDS, Outpatient, Endoscopy) by recruitment, selection, interviewing and training.
  • Address patient complaints thru service recovery, IRIS, and/or Grievance Process.  Maintain a safe and effective perioperative/endoscopy environment by investigating all IRIS reports within time frame and follow up.
  • Maintain a safe and aseptic working environment by quality control measures, data collection and TJC regulations for SPD, PACU, Sterile Supply, SDS, Endoscopy Procedure Room, and the OR Suites.
  • Maintain required documentation of patient care by auditing patient and department records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by completion of LEARN assignments, attending mandatory in-services and participation in professional networks (AORN, MNAST, IAHCSMM, CBSPD, SGNA, etc.).
  • Promotes the Perioperative and Endoscopy Service Lines with particular attention to growth and new opportunities to serve particular patient populations.  Validates and approves surgeon and outside surgical invoices.
  • Coordination of all product utilization and equipment selection in the SDS, Perioperative, and Endoscopy environments with strategic alignment with physician and other providers defining budgetary metrics.  Education of upgrades and revisions to electronic software programs- particularly with those affecting the Perioperative (SPD, OR, Endo, etc.)

Qualifications

Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing 

Five plus years clinical experience in hospital environment

RN License in MN

BLS

ACLS
