** Please note,  this position will primarily work in the Cardiovascular Testing Lab (90%) with cross training in the adjoining Cardiovascular Clinic (10%). 

The Cardiovascular Medical Assistant provides technical support for diagnostic, non-invasive cardiac testing (e.g., treadmill tests, ECGs, Holter scans) for inpatient and ambulatory populations. Provides ECG management for VM and contractual business.

 

Cardiac Testing (90%)

  • Under RN supervision, supports treadmill stress testing, including patient preparation, test performance, and patient discharge 
  • Ensures correct lead placement and good lead hookup to support accurate capture of patient’s clinical data.
  • Operates stress testing equipment in real time during patient test
  • Adjusts equipment and controls according to physician’s orders and/or established protocol. Troubleshoots equipment issues and, as able, resolves in a timely manner, or escalates issues to the appropriate staff (e.g., Clinical Engineering). 
  • Prepares reports of test results for interpretation by the physician.
  • Under physician’s order, independently performs ECGs, ensuring correct lead placement, and screens results for technical quality 
  • Provides support for VM staff in the use of ECG systems/software.
  • Independently applies ambulatory cardiac or blood pressure monitoring device i.e. Zio Patch
  • Performs administrative functions in support of the Cardiovascular Lab.
  • Schedules and arrives patients.
  • Prepares billings for services provided, ensuring accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 codes.

 

Cardiovascular Clinic (10%)

  • Coordinates and schedules services for patients and providers. Maintains provider’s daily schedules and communicates changes.
  • Prepares charts with all necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains filing of test results.
  • Updates insurance information. 
  • Provides patients with generic preoperative and postoperative information.
  • Acts as primary contact for patients. Answer telephones and schedule patient appointments with providers. Reminds patients of upcoming appointments. Schedules new or follow up appointments.
  • Keeps patients informed of delays. Routes phone calls per urgent/emergent guidelines.
  • Perform telephone and in-person screening
  • Facilitates patient flow & rooming through taking medical histories, vital statistics, obtaining last visit notes and/or lab results.
  • Prepare patients for exams, treatments, procedures by obtaining vital signs: which may include temp, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight measurements. Explains tests or procedures and informs patients of test results.
  • Utilizing Standard Precautions: cleans & organizes exam rooms, cleans/sterilizes equipment, disposes of bio-hazardous materials and is responsible for autoclave wrapping.

 

Qualifications

What we requre:

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Graduation from an accredited medical Assisting program, With Washington State Department of Health medical Assistant - Certified (CM)
Knowledge of third party payer requirements required.
Strong aptitude for detail, and ability to work independently, required.
Strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills required. skill in using a PC required. 
One year Medical Assistant – Certified experience preferred.
