Responsibilities

This job concurrently reviews hospital medical documentation to assess for missing, unclear or conflicting information and communicates with medical staff to ensure appropriate reimbursement to the hospital and reflect the complexity and severity of patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Completes concurrent medical record reviews on the nursing units to ensure diagnoses and procedures are clearly documented by the physicians.
  • Prompts physicians regarding missing, unclear, or conflicting medical record documentation and obtains additional documentation within the medical record to assist with the correct code assignment when appropriate.
  • Provides documentation / coding education to patient care providers.
  • Assists with retrospective chart reviews to analyze effectiveness of physician prompting.
  • May participate in the analysis and trending of statistical data for specified patient populations to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Completes DRG worksheets for performance tracking reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. 
  • Current Washington State Nursing license required.
  • 3+ years of direct patient care experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Utilization review and / or inpatient concurrent coding experience preferred.
