Overview

Responsibilities

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) (IP/OP) delivers quality therapy services to patients by implementing treatment in accordance with the established treatment plan to achieve goals to maximize functional outcomes.  The COTA provides care at the direction of the supervising Occupational Therapist and actively participates in discharge planning.  The COTA is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice following the guidelines of the State of Texas Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy.  

Services are delivered within the framework of an interdisciplinary team approach, including the patient and significant others. These services are delivered in compliance with CommonSpirit, St. Joseph's mission, ethical standards, and policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Associate Degree; Major in Occupational Therapy or other Occupational Therapy related field 
  • Licensed by the State of Texas in Occupational Therapy Assistant 
  • Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • BLS CPR certified, American Heart Association

  • Effective Communication
  • Knowledge of the principles and skills of the clinical process to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills both written and verbal
  • Basic Computer skills
