If identified by the applicable Board of Pharmacy, the Retail Pharmacy Technician Trainee reports to the pharmacy manager, supervisor or PIC. Duties assigned to the Retail Pharmacy Technician Trainee responsibilities may include, as dictated by state law in which the pharmacy resides, assisting the Pharmacist in medication preparation, inventory management, and distribution, requiring extreme accuracy and attention to detail. They are responsible for meeting DEA, FDA, and state regulations for a technician trainee. The Retail Pharmacy Technician Trainee may have responsibility for assisting with controlled substances management and has access to and manages medication storage areas. The Retail Pharmacy Technician Trainee applies pharmacy knowledge and experience to identify variances and outliers in clinical practice to prevent medication errors. The Retail Pharmacy Technician fields and triages calls and questions regarding medication distribution, assisting other caregivers within their scope of practice.
**All duties performed by the pharmacy technician trainee are dictated by the appropriate state board of pharmacy that recognizes this title. The responsibilities of the trainee will be approved and monitored by the pharmacist in charge in compliance with all state and federal laws**
Permissible activities of a pharmacy technician trainee. Acting in compliance with all applicable statutes and rules and under the supervision of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician trainee may assist a graduate intern, pharmacy intern, or pharmacist with the following when applicable to the pharmacy practice site:
