Responsibilities

We seek outstanding applicants for a full-time post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Ruchira Jha Departments of Neurology Neurosurgery and Neurobiology. An MD (or MBBS equivalent) MD/PhD DVM DO or PhD scientist in neuroscience or closely related field is sought for the translational study of neural recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our NIH funded laboratory focuses on translational research in TBI with a particular interest in secondary injury processes that are clinically relevant to the care of patients. Our preclinical laboratory work includes various transgenics to explore mechanism and therapeutic intervention. Our work frequently involves extensive collaborations with other university laboratories and networks nationwide. Applicants are expected to have an excellent track record of academic work including rigorous scientific method and publications.

 

The ideal candidate would be highly motivated and interested in the field of acute brain injury translational research and understanding mechanisms underlying secondary injury processes that are clinically relevant and major but modifiable contributors to outcome. They should have experience in both independent and collaborative research presenting research findings at academic conferences and writing up research for publication. Successful candidates will be those who are open to learning new techniques given the rapidly changing scientific environment good communication and teamwork skills and able to perform or supervise preclinical experiments (technicians medical students).

 

The post-doc will need to perform experiments involving techniques in molecular and cell biology potentially single-cell technologies preclinical models of disease (TBI) and physiology. Therefore practical experience in basic science laboratory research techniques including skills in molecular biology (PCR western blotting immunohistochemistry cell culture genotyping microarray) is expected. A working knowledge of data analysis statistics and bioinformatics (e.g. analyzing RNA-seq data) is helpful- or alternatively the desire and capability of learning how to code in standard programs (Stata SPSS R).

Qualifications

Laboratory or clinical research at the post-baccalaureate level with an interest in a faculty member's line of study.

 

Beyond minimum required experience writing research reports concerning own work and familiarity with a biomedical discipline Laboratory or clinical technical and/or interpersonal skills as appropriate.

 

Technical and/or conceptual expertise in a relevant field.

Familiar with basic computer mathematical scientific reasoning and oral and written communication skills as appropriate.

 

Education 
Ph.D., post-baccalaureate M.D. or D.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant field of endeavor.
