Responsibilities

St. Joseph Medical Center Family Birth Center delivers more babies in the South Puget Sound than any other hospital, and offers extensive prenatal, obstetrical, delivery, and postpartum care.  We are proud to be recognized as among the country’s top-performing programs, designations that are only awarded to maternity care programs that maintain exceptional outcomes and deliver patient-focused care.

Our offerings include High-Risk Pregnancy Care, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 24-hour OB Hospitalists, Partnership with the Neonatology Team at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Midwifery Services, Childbirth and Family Education Classes, Breastfeeding Support with our Certified Lactation Consultants, Frenotomy and Treatment Options for Babies with Tongue-Tie, Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC), Waterbirth, Pelvic Physical Therapy Program, and Doulas to provide physical and emotional support to pregnant women both before and after childbirth.

 

Job Summary:


This position is responsible for serving as the primary Registered Nurse delivering care to women who are admitted to the Family Birth Center. This patient population may include low-risk and high-risk pregnancies.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducts Maternal-Fetal Assessment.
  • Provides nursing support to the laboring patients, utilizing pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management.
  • Provides stabilization and transition of the normal newborn at delivery.
  • Circulates and scrubs for Cesarean Sections.
  • Cares for the post-surgical patient.
  • Assists the anesthesiologist with insertion of an epidural and provides care to the patient with regional anesthesia.
  • Provides care to the High-Risk maternity patient.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Possession of a BSN degree is preferred.
  • Previous recent Labor and Delivery Experience is preferred, or
  • 1-2 years Med/Surg experience, or new graduate with completion of senior practicum in L&D, Mother/Baby unit or nursery.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Healthcare BLS Certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) completion within 6 months of date of hire. Electronic Fetal Monitoring offered by National Certification Corporation (NCC), or American Nurses Credentialing Center certification preferred.
