Responsibilities

Role:

Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for the efficient and meticulous decontamination and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety.  This includes using various methods such as ultrasonic cleaning, steam sterilization, and ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization, depending on the instrument type and manufacturer's recommendations.  SPTs meticulously inspect surgical instruments for damage, proper function, and cleanliness, assembling them onto instrument trays according to surgical procedure specifications and established aseptic techniques.  They also assemble and prepare surgical packs and trays, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.

Qualifications

Experience/ Licensure/Certification:

Graduation from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Course (preferred) and one year of related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities preferably in an operating room acute care hospital or central services department preferred.

Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management (IAHCCSMM) at hire or within six months of date of hire; OR

Current certification as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing.
