Overview

At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy, our focus is patient-centered care. Our full range of medical services includes trauma services, heart and vascular care, emergency services, surgery, maternity, cancer care, and diagnostic imaging.

Responsibilities

Ensures proper operation and monitoring of the autotransfusion equipment during intra-op and post-op where autotransfusion is requested; assists in blood management and conservation for surgical patients.


Responsible for monitoring blood gasses, the adequate anticoagulation of the patient, and other duties as prescribed.


Knowledgeable in procedural preparation, set-up, and has the ability to maintain physiologic pressure monitoring for surgical patients to include arterial lines, swans, and blood administration sets.


Presents thorough completion of required documentation, charting, and monitoring relative to autotransfusion protocols and procedures.


Knowledgeable and/or to become knowledgeable in the varied and available equipment; must have ability to perform autotransfusion functions.


Responsible for selecting appropriate technical equipment in preparation of patient care cases with an ability to describe skills/technique applied when consulting with physicians.


Confidently works alongside physicians in the area of blood management during patient care cases to help them understand related policies/procedures.


To share and promote own professional experience among team members, willingness to work in a team environment, and assist in best practices when orienting new staff.


Pursue continued learning paths, growth opportunities, and self-development relevant to job responsibilities.


Maintain established job skills for position competency.


To communicate with patients, families, and team members in a manner that promotes dignity, empathy, and respect.

Qualifications

High school diploma required

Experience in cardiovascular monitoring, autologous blood recovery, point of care lab testing preferred

Previous or current patient care experience preferred

BLS - American Heart Association required
