Responsibilities

This position is responsible for all plumbing, piping and steam systems and equipment. These systems are life support systems or essential utilities, including medical gasses/vacuum. Sewage systems, domestic water supply, domestic hot and cold water generation and distribution and steam and condensation systems (i.e., sterilization).

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Installs, repairs and maintains hospital fixtures and equipment such as urinals, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, faucets.
  • Install, inspects, and maintains all existing plumbing systems and related lines such as hot and cold water lines, steam lines, sewer lines.
  • Completes inspections of all plumbing systems and equipment according to established procedures completing log sheets, checklists and PM sheets as required.
  • Completes required documentation in reference to mechanical systems as required by federal, state and regulatory agencies.
  • Works as part of the project team.
  • Assist other skilled workers and perform general maintenance work as requested.
  • Assist Contractors with building information as needed.
  • Facilitates the efficient operation of the department by answering the telephone and assisting callers or visitors with requests.
  • Safe handling/disposal/packaging for Transport of Pharmaceutical Waste/Hazardous Materials/Bio-Hazardous Regulated Medical Waste.
  • Completes the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) and Hazardous Waste education during employee orientation.
  • Tri-annually education for the D.O.T training.
  • Is knowledgeable of the process for identifying the proper waste stream and uses the appropriate container to dispose of waste.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the process to contact the emergency response coordinator for hazardous waste/pharmaceutical release/spill clean-up.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Apprenticeship program required. 

  • 5 years commercial plumbing experience required. 

  • Associate's degree preferred. 

Licensure and Certifications: 

  • Journeyman Plumbers License: KY (PLUMBER:KY) required. 

  • Driver's License: KY (AUTO:KY) required.
