Responsibilities

The Diagnostic Imaging Nurse, is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures. The role also involves coordinating and conducting educational programs for staff, physicians, and patients, as well as performing administrative tasks such as scheduling procedures and answering phones. The employee is expected to uphold the Mission and Core Values of Northridge Medical Center and support its strategic and quality improvement goals.

  • Suite Preparation: Sets up the special procedure suite according to  aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepares patients for procedures, including shaving and prepping the site, connecting patients to monitoring equipment, and checking existing IV lines for patency. Initiates IV lines as required per physician's orders. Reviews surgical checklists and verifies the existence of allergies or previous medication reactions.
  • IV Therapy Management: Initiates and monitors IV therapy, following proper procedures for IV insertion, selecting appropriate angiocath size and insertion site based on patient size/age and treatment plan. Maintains IV sites and IV therapy as per physician's orders and hospital policy, properly labeling IV bags.
  • Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitors and assesses the patient's condition throughout the procedure, documenting vital signs at least every 15 minutes.
  • Medication Administration: Reviews physician orders to ensure patients receive all medications as prescribed. Promptly investigates delays in medication administration and follows up with the physician and supervisor/manager. Administers medications according to the 5 Rights, accurately documents medication administration, and ensures controlled medications are accounted for and recorded per hospital/unit policy. Takes responsibility for counting as required and consistently demonstrates responsibility for the safekeeping of controlled medications.
  • Intra-Arterial Pressure Monitoring: Assumes responsibility for intra-arterial pressure monitoring, properly utilizing two-port and three-port manifolds, zeroing pressure monitors, and obtaining and documenting intra-arterial pressures.
  • Airway Management: Assumes responsibility for maintaining patent patient airways, demonstrating proper use of suction and oxygen.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of current acute medical-surgical experience and critical care or emergency department experience
  • Registered Nurse with current California license required
  • Current AHA basic life support certificate (BCLS & ACLS) Required
