Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional and compassionate nursing care to patients across the lifespan, based on individual needs and in accordance with physician orders, hospital policies, and established standards of nursing practice. The RN directs and coordinates the activities of the patient care team, ensuring the delivery of individualized, quality patient care that reflects the organization's core values. Key responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

 

  • Patient Care Coordination: Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, coordinating with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes. Communicates the plan of care to patients, advocating for their active involvement. Documents and communicates all relevant patient information (symptoms, reactions, treatments, changes in condition) to the appropriate team members.
  • Clinical Practice & Judgment: Applies clinical knowledge and expertise, demonstrating effective nursing judgment and a strong understanding of the nursing process. Administers medications, assesses patient responses, and initiates appropriate interventions. Provides teaching based on identified patient needs.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration: Provides guidance and supervision to interdisciplinary team members, including assigning tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel within their scope of practice. Serves as a preceptor and role model for new personnel and nursing students. Establishes and maintains professional, collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, patients, families, and the public.
  • Compliance & Professionalism: Adheres to all established hospital/departmental policies, procedures, regulations, and standards (including legal, safety, infection control, and the Nurse Practice Act). Demonstrates a professional and cooperative manner, managing conflict effectively. Understands and utilizes appropriate channels of communication within the organizational structure.
  • Continuous Improvement & Development: Demonstrates an understanding of performance improvement methods. Collaborates with supervisory staff to identify and address own educational and professional growth needs.
  • Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years current acute care registered nursing experience in specialty area.
  • Outpatient chemotherapy experience required.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited/approved Nursing program required.
  • BSN/MSN degree required.
  • Registered Nurse with current California License required.
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification required.
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • LA City Fire Care required within 90 days of hire.

This position is represented by SEIU L121 and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
