Responsibilities

Take the lead in supporting life-saving diagnostic care by joining our Laboratory team at St. Bernardine Medical Center. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Specimen Management Supervisor to oversee the critical pre-analytical phases of laboratory operations, including phlebotomy, specimen processing, and send-out services.

In this leadership role, you will guide a skilled team of professionals to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality specimen handling. Your collaborative spirit and commitment to operational excellence will help advance efficient care coordination across departments, supporting fast and reliable diagnostic results for our patients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and schedule phlebotomy, specimen processing, and send-out staff to meet department workflow and service demands
  • Maintain high-quality standards by developing, updating, and enforcing laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Collaborate across departments to streamline specimen collection and improve lab turnaround times
  • Support hiring, training, performance management, and team development efforts
  • Monitor work performance and provide coaching and support to ensure ongoing staff competency
  • Maintain documentation for staff training, competencies, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in department meetings, regulatory reviews, and continuous improvement activities

Qualifications

  • 5 years phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory with High School Diploma/GED

  • 3 years phlebotomy experience preferred with Associate or Bachelor degree in a biological science

  • California: PHLEB:CA

  • Lab Assistant Program certification Phlebotomy certificate

  • Excellent communication skills Demonstration of leadership skills
