Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager for the General Surgical Unit is a registered nurse responsible for the overall management and leadership of the unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. This individual is accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit, including staffing, budgeting, performance management, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction. The Nurse Manager fosters a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes professional growth and development of the nursing staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Provides leadership and direction to the nursing staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Develops and implements unit-specific goals and objectives aligned with the hospital's strategic plan..
  • Staff Management:
    • Recruits, hires, and orients new nursing staff.
    • Develops and maintains staffing schedules that meet patient care needs and budgetary constraints.
  • Financial Management:
    • Develops and manages the unit budget, ensuring responsible resource allocation..
  • Quality and Patient Safety:
    • Implements and monitors quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Patient Care:
    • Ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care that meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
    • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.

 

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN or Bachelors’ Degree in a related field is preferred.
Three years’ experience and clinical knowledge in the same or similar clinical specialty. Two years in a charge
nurse/ leadership or equivalent position required. Clinical knowledge as a Registered Nurse in the same or similar clinical specialty preferred.
