Responsibilities

 

The  Unit Secretary that will provide a variety of task that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner with respect and dignity.  The Unit Secretary coordinates clerical, support and receptionist functions in accordance with Hospital policy. Under the direct supervision of the licensed personnel coordinates clerical support and receptionist functions in accordance with hospital policy and Intensive Care Services.  The Unit Secretary will  transcribe transmit and place physician orders to appropriate area under the direction of the RN; will arrange for the efficient and timely admissions of all patients.  Responsible for completion of patient discharges and transfers via hospital computer system.  Maintains an organized and professional work area. 

 

  • Receives and routes physicians' orders to appropriate areas under the direction of the Registered Nurse per policies and procedures.
  • Confers with licensed personnel, assigned to the patient, to schedule patient's activities and tests.
  • Performs clerical duties required to maintain the medical record.
  • Documents and communicates all appropriate data/information to both intra/interdepartmental personnel.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services and prepares related forms.  Keeps stock and equipment inventories.
  • Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and Hospital personnel, while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
  • Collaborates with Supervisory staff to identify own career and educational needs.
  • Utilizes patient care system to respond to patient needs and retrieve appropriate staff.
  • Accesses network and effectively utilizes electronic applications (e.g.e-mail, LMS, EHR) on a regular basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum one (1) year of medical clerical duties in an acute care environment required. 
  • Completion of an accredited/approved medical terminology course preferred. 
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Proficient with AS400/Cerner preferred. 
  • Current AHA BLS card required. 
  • LA City Fire Card required within 90 days

This position is represented by SEIU UHW and covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
