Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the Anesthesiologist and the Registered Nurse, the Anesthesia Technician prepares, and maintains appropriate anesthesia equipment and assists with patient care in accordance with individual patient needs, physician orders, Hospital policy and standards of patient care. Assists with monitoring, maintenance and clinical application of all laser and video equipment for the Operating Suite. The Anesthesia Technician complies with the rules of delegation and is responsible and accountable for tasks delegated by the anesthesia care provider or Charge RN and cannot delegate to others what has been delegated to him/her.

 

  • Supports Daily Work of the Anesthesia Care Providers.
  • Assure special equipment is in ORs as needed for first cases.
    Deliver supplies to Anesthesia Providers in ORs throughout the day.
  • Ensure anesthesia machines are safe and functional through daily safety checks.
  • Fill vaporizers, change soda lime canisters, and replace breathing circuits and laryngoscope blades between cases.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with BioMed and the Charge RN.
  • Clean, maintain, and stock anesthesia equipment, including specialty carts (Difficult Airway, Peds, A-line).
  • Manage/Operate Specialty Equipment and maintain Quality Control and Laser Log.
  • Deliver supplies to Anesthesia Providers in ORs throughout the day.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of anesthesia supplies in the Main OR, OR, OB OR, and other anesthesia care locations.
  • Monitor expiration dates, rotate stock, remove outdated supplies, and deliver them to the Materials Coordinator.
  • Clean and restock anesthesia carts and supply cabinets.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked supply area.
  • Prepare anesthesia-related devices (centrifuge, rapid infuser, IV/blood warmer) for surgical procedures.
  • Set up A-lines, monitor lines, and tubing according to Anesthesia Care Provider preferences.
  • Participate in universal protocol "time-out" procedures.
  • Practice aseptic technique when applicable.
  • Function as the OR resource person for laser applications and usage, ensuring equipment is in good repair and maintaining laser competency.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot endoscopes, video equipment, and accessories, following AAMI guidelines.
  • Clean, maintain, set up, operate, test, and troubleshoot cell saver equipment, performing and monitoring quality control according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Maintain all related records and documentation required by Federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in operating and maintaining surgical/medical laser and video equipment in hospital/acute care or out patient environment. 

  • Fluent English language skills (verbal and written) required..

  • Experience dealing with quality, patient care/customer service.

  • Experience in QC with Laser, Video and cell savor equipment.

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.

  • Laser Safety Officer certificate preferred.   
  • Anesthesia Technician Certificate preferred. 
  • Current CPR certification and Fire Card required
