Market Director Revenue Cycle-Acute

The Market Director of Revenue Cycle, in the CommonSpirit fully outsourced environment, will primarily serve as a Revenue Cycle performance management liaison and subject matter expert. Primary focus areas include reduction of revenue cycle process defects to improve financial performance for the Market. This may include collaboration across CHI Health Hospitals and clinics, influencing and improving outsourced revenue cycle vendors performance, evaluation and influencing change in EPIC functionality and collaboration with CommonSpirit National Revenue Cycle leadership, Market VP of Revenue Cycle regarding system and market strategies. The position will regularly work with other market peers for synergistic and effective solutions. This may also include Clinical Informatics, Epic system analysts, clinical and other operational teams, addressing issues that prevent efficient and effective patient billing, coding, and payment of claims. Responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the operations and services of multiple departments that are responsible for, or impacting, the hospital revenue cycle for CHI Health. Work will be in accordance with overall business objectives, professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

 

The Market Director operates as a performance leader, focusing on driving results and outcomes. They prioritize building strong relationships and are a strategic thinker who holds significant influence within a matrix organization.

Operations:

  • Evaluates and addresses performance of the operations and services of outsourced Hospital revenue cycle vendor to ensure that all activities are conducted in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with organizational values, professional standards, internal policies/standards/procedures and/or applicable regulatory requirements; facilitates the application of consistent practices relating to the function across the organization; modifies work-flow processes and/or auditing functions as necessary to improve performance and customer service; troubleshoots emergent issues Coordinates meetings with revenue cycle, clinical, IT, and financial key stakeholders to analyze, map, understands the revenue cycle processes in order to plan, and implement improvements or changes 
  • Provides detailed and executive level summaries from time to time to facilitate transparency of metrics and progress toward key performance indicators and goals.

Performance/Quality Improvement:

  • Utilizing consistent industry metrics, monitors, assesses and reports on hospital operations/services as they relate to Revenue Cycle performance to identify opportunities and provide recommendations to key stakeholders for performance/process improvements initiatives; conducts ongoing assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the assigned function to better understand/identify future needs and challenges; implements approved changes and ensures that stakeholders receive the necessary on-site training and consultation to enhance their understanding of quality/performance improvement initiatives. 

Procedures Development/Implementation:

  • Serves on teams, local and national, engaged in the development and updating of policies, procedures, workflows, tools and action plans; recommends, implements and evaluates new/revised standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, training materials and/or general communications in support of assigned functional area to ensure consistency with the philosophy/values of the organization and compliance with applicable regulatory/accreditation requirements; ensures that all functional activities are fully documented in accordance with the standards and practices of the organization; ensures that employees and applicable stakeholders understand and apply internal guidelines appropriately.  

Short- and Long-Term Planning:

  • Actively participates, as a key member of the CommonSpirit Central Midwest Revenue Cycle team, in short- and long-term planning activities, including the development/implementation of plans/projects to address current and future needs to support achievement of business objectives; presents and gains support for recommendations and manages project management efforts to develop/implement planning objectives.   

Budget Administration:

  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the annual operating budget as it relates to Revenue Cycle initiatives and cost center(s). Exercises effective cost control by monitoring and adjusting expenses as needed to stay within budget; approves expenditures within defined scope of responsibility; from time to time identifies negative variances and develops action plans to document, address and effectively resolve in a timely manner;. 

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Maintains knowledge of changing regulatory requirements/regulations, professional standards and competitive industry practices impacting the assigned function, as well as organizational initiatives/changes with potential to impact current programs and resources; determines nature/scope of impact and determines effective response/solution while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality; ensures full compliance with internal/external legal and regulatory standards and requirements, and that effective control procedures are in place and fully functioning to preclude improprieties from occurring; monitors the effectiveness of practices in meeting expectations and producing desired results

Qualifications

Required Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline; Master’s Degree strongly preferred

Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible related work experience in healthcare revenue cycle. (preferably with additional experience in outsourced environment and vendor performance management) that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities.
