Responsibilities

As a nurse at the Dignity Health Medical Group Gastroenterology department, you will prepare patients for specialty procedures by providing education through colonoscopy screening classes, reviewing referrals to assess patient eligibility, and much more…

 

Some of your daily activities will include:

 

  • Reviewing patient records
  • Communicate test results to patient
  • Triage patient messages that are documented in electronic health records.  Based on treatment guidelines and RN scope of practice, RN provides medical advice, to include appropriate course of treatment. Routinely communicates with patients via phone and patient portal. Relays information to patient per clinician direction.
  • Conducting preoperative assessments
  • Relaying physician instructions
  • Providing education to patients and answering questions about the procedures and medications. RN reviews scheduling pools to confirm acuity of patients being referred for low risk colonoscopy procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Clear and current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of three (3) years of RN or related experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.  Satisfactory completion of a formal Registered Nurse program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited Registered Nurse program (determination by Dignity Health Medical Foundation HR department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health Professions)
  • Excellent interpersonal organizational and customer service skills are essential
  • Medical terminology familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding procedures and reference tools and pharmacology appropriate to the Registered Nurse scope of practice is essential
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system is preferred.
