Responsibilities

 

National Nurse Residency Program / New Grad RN Residency Program

 

Our National Nurse Residency Program is a 52 week program designed to provide our new grads with superior peer and leadership support along with a comprehensive education experience. During the first 18 weeks, the Nurse Resident is paired with a preceptor for shifts on their unit and will complete online learning modules, in person lectures, and out rotations to other units. During week 19-52 the Resident is on their own, working their shifts in their department and will continue with online learning, in person lectures, a mentor program and an Evidence Based Project (implementation of the project is not required).

 

A CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident is a new graduate direct clinical care registered nurse (RN) who continues to develop nursing knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors introduced in formal education as they transition into practice. They are expected to demonstrate the appropriate competency in both core and functional areas, listed below.


Progression is expected in the areas of leading through mission vision and values, patient/customer focus, taking ownership, health care knowledge, teamwork, clinical performance improvement, service excellence, decision making and critical thinking, and patient safety.

Qualifications

In-person interview for internals: 7/17/25 and 7/18/25

In-person interview for externals: 1st week in August ’25 

Start date: 10/6/25

 

To qualify must have CA RN license by 8/29/25

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an  accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing required;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred 
  • 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience
  • Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state 
    •  
  • BLS and ACLS certification - American Heart Association
  • Additional certifications may be required based on population(s) served and services provided
  • Ability to:
    • Deliver excellence in patient care through assessing formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals planning and implementing intervention and evaluating patient care outcomes.
    • Read, analyze and interpret hospital policies and procedures, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. 
    • Write reports and procedures and document in the medical record.
    • Effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, patients, physicians, family members and the general public.
    • Calculate figures and amounts such as weights dosages flow rates proportions percentages and volume. 
    • Apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
    • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 
    • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Critically think and problem solve. 
    • Read, write, and speak English.
    • Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record
    • Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks
    • Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays
    • Must agree to terms and conditions of the program
