Responsibilities

Position Summary:

In keeping with the Marian Regional Medical Center health care philosophy, the Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients, families, and caregivers of Dignity Health Hospce and Dignity Health Community Based Palliative Care program. Care can be provided either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors. The Chaplain/Spiritual Counselor acts as a liaison with patient/family and also works with community clergy, at patient's request, acting as a contact between the parish communities to ensure continuity of pastoral/spiritual care.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • One-year experience in hospice as a Chaplain/Spiritual advisor.
  • Experience working with death dying, individuals/family/caregiver.
  • Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry.
  • Current certification by NACC or other accredited CPE program; willingness to work toward certification.
  • If a priest or member of a religious order, ecclesiastical endorsement required.
  • Must complete orientation program for hospice and for palliative care services.
  • Ability to work effectively with the sick and dying, respond effectively in crisis situations and effectively deal with stress.
  • Ability to work as a member of a interdisciplinary group as well with other professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills and the ability to work with computers.
  • Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs and values Ability to network with community clergy and congregations.
  • Commitment to ones own personal and spiritual growth.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care
  • CA drivers license, CAR INS
