Under the direction of the Management Team, the Medical Assistant (MA) administers direct patient care in accordance with physicians' orders and under the supervision of a licensed physician who must be in the department during the performance of MA duties. The MA is responsible for checking patients in to the clinic and performing vital signs, weight, pulse oximetry and annual outpatient assessment prior to scheduled visit. Assists the physician during minor medical procedures. Administers medications as ordered by the physician and verified by RN or MD. The MA is also responsible for patient check out ensuring that MD orders are carried out prior to patients' departure. The MA is required to document all patient contact in the medical record. FRONT OFFICE: Under the direction of the Management Team, the Medical Assistant may be asked to coordinate front office functions such as correspondence, copying, filing, managing telephones, collecting all demographic and financial information as applicable, running patient insurance status through established protocols, attaching appropriate paper work to charts, scheduling of patient appointments, and other support activities that assist the medical and ancillary staff. The front office medical assistant assists patients as they call or come into the clinic for appointments by being courteous and referring them as appropriate.
