Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical, and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution and delivery of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Other duties within scope of practice as assigned by supervising pharmacist. The technician may be required to work at another GSSA facility.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • One year of acute care hospital pharmacy practice experience or a 6 week Pharmacy Technician externship at a Dignity Health Sacramento Division Hospital or 5 years of recent Retail Pharmacy experience processing TARs and PAs (within the last 3 years) or 1 year of recent experience in Pharmacy Managed Care (within the last 3 years) is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal restrictions on the activities of nonlicensed personnel in a hospital pharmacy, medical abbreviations, pharmaceutical terminology and calculations, and generic/trade names of medications.
  • Experience in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic/hazardou s medications is preferred.

Licensure:

  • Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a registered technician.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board- preferred

Education:

  • Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program is preferred
Special Skills:
  • Experience working in a USP 797 clean room is preferable.
