Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Performs the manual technical tasks involved with the proper storage, distribution, packaging and labeling of drugs, associated record keeping and patient charging systems. Works under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Follows proper procedures for the operation of equipment and use of supplies.  Maintains and coordinates systems to ensure that pharmacy operations run efficiently on a day-to-day basis.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Assists pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to include (but not limited to):
  1. Preparing, filling and distributing medication
  2. Screening phone calls/orders and alerting the pharmacist to patient-specific data indicating 
  1. If working with controlled substances, obtains narcotics from Pyxis vault. Prepares narcotics for rounds and files required paperwork. Participates daily in narcotic audits on the units. Documents on DEA form 222 for ordering Schedule II medications
  2. If working with 340B
  1. Auditing of prescription data from multiple computer systems at on-site and off-site locations
  2. Reconciling invoices from multiple wholesalers
  3. Providing feedback and requested information to multiple contract pharmacies, wholesalers, program participants
  4. Review daily reports to validate information used for the program
  5. Maintain prescription files and records for the program required time frame
  6. Knowledgeable about wholesaler ordering platform and place and receive daily pharmacy orders
  1. If working as a packager:
  1. Pre-packages tablets, capsules and liquids into single-dose units. Prepares labels with medication name, strength, lot number and expiration date.
  1. If working with automated dispensing:
  1. Loading, refilling, removing, outdating, barcode scanning and inventorying medications and runs reports for automated dispensing cabinets
  2. Adding, removing, inventorying and outdating medications in the carousel system
  3. General maintenance as required on pumps and other devices used in preparing medications for dispensing and assists in resolving equipment failures
  1. If working in Quality Assurance:
  1. Maintains accurate documentation on packaging and compounding logs and sterile compounding area cleaning logs
  2. Responds to electronic refrigerator temperature monitoring system in a timely manner and documents response to temperature alerts
  3. Documents unit inspection results accurately and in a timely manner on unit inspection form.
  4. Maintains accurate documentation of other activities as requested.
  1. If working as Inventory Control:
  1. Monitor contract compliance with drug companies and wholesalers
  2. Oversee completion of annual inventory
  1. Maintaining inventory levels of drugs and other supplies
  2. Replace stock to various Pharmacy exchange carts, anesthesia rays and filling internal requisitions for drugs and supplies to various departments within the hospital
  1. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

High school/GED

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • PHARMTECH:KY or PHRMINTERN:KY;
  • CPT-PTCB; or CPT-EXCPT; or CPT-NCCT

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and organizational policies. Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/ software at an acceptable level.

PREFERRED Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years pharmacy experience preferred.
