Are you a compassionate and detail-oriented individual looking to make a real difference in the lives of patients? St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, a member of the CHI Franciscan Health family, is seeking a dedicated .6 FTE Care Assistant Health Unit Coordinator to join our dynamic team!

In this vital role, you will be an integral part of our patient care team, providing direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, while also managing essential unit secretarial functions and equipment processing. You'll be the friendly face and helpful hand that contributes to a smooth and supportive environment for our patients and staff.

JOB SUMMARY

This job is responsible for assisting with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse; performs data entry, unit secretarial functions, and equipment processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide compassionate patient care, including personal hygiene, comfort measures, and assistance with mobility.
  • Monitor and document patient conditions, reporting any changes to the RN.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for procedures and examinations.
  • Perform unit secretarial functions, including answering phones, greeting visitors, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked unit environment.
  • Process and maintain medical equipment according to established standards.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff, adhering to all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Provide general support activities for the unit.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program (or military medical specialty training).
  • Six months related work experience preferred. Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multidisciplinary team members, providers, families and coworkers.
  • Ability to use basic math skills, to include addition and subtraction.
  • Must be able to follow directions provided by the nurse in charge.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
  • Must be registered by the Washington State Nursing Commission as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a specialty unit.
  • Experience as both a Certified Nursing Assistant and Unit Coordinator.
