Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta is a member of the Dignity Health system of health care providers and is a not-for-profit medical facility. We are designated as a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital and are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care Organizations. In addition to our acute care hospital we also own and operate three Rural Health Clinics providing walk-in immediate care as well as scheduled appointments for routine medical needs.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the attending physician, renders Physician Assistant services under the guidelines of the California's Physician Assistants

Examining Committee under Title 16, Chapter 13.8. Supports the educational needs of Mercy Community Clinic as needed.

 

 

Core Duties:

  • Provides team-based integrated and culturally respectful patient-centered care for a panel of patients consistent with medical best practices and the policies and procedures of the organization
  • Performs patient history taking, physical examination, diagnosis, develop and implement treatment plans and perform required procedures within scope of licensure, approved credentials and clinical best practice standards
  • Orders diagnostic testing based on clinical findings and clinical best practice standards; interprets results of diagnostic testing and implement and/or appropriate follow-up with the patient/family
  • Complete appropriate coding and update EMR documentation for each patient encounter consistent with clinic procedure; records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition
  • Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan; submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by Medical Director
  • Prescribes new and medication refills or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures
  • Provides care and education focused on individual and family engagement and behavioral change, treatment compliance and health risk factor reduction; provides age appropriate anticipatory guidance and counseling, wellness promotion and health education to clients and/or families, including: nutrition and exercise, health maintenance, safety, substance abuse (including use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs), emotional well-bring, school and activities, behavior and development
  • Participates in clinic and operational quality improvement processes at achieving targeted clinical outcomes; participates in development and review of clinic policies and procedures. Attend scheduled team, provider and staff meetings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in a professional manner

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Academic degree required
  • Completion of a specialized Physician Assistant Training Program required
  • Successful completion of a national physician examination prior to being licensed by the Physician Assistant Board in California
  • Licensed as a PA in good standing from the California State Physician Assistant Board
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) member, satisfactory report from the National Practitioner Data Bank
  • Ability to successfully meet Dignity Health's credentialing program and privileging processes upon hire and biannually thereafter
  • One (1) year of experience as a Physician Assistant in an outpatient primary care clinic, community health center required
  • Sufficient training to maintain prerequisite certifications required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree preferrred
