Responsibilities

The decentralized Neurology Critical Care Clinical Specialist is responsible for the delivery and documentation of pharmaceutical care provided to patients using the medication use process (selecting, prescribing, dispensing, administration and monitoring of medications).  The neuro critical care pharmacist provides clinical direction for the pharmacy and acts as a pharmacy liaison. The pharmacist in this position actively participates in formulary management, pharmacotherapy services and drug therapy management.

 

This position is 50% clinical, 50% faculty in collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. The clinical practice site is at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.

 

Located in Phoenix, AZ this position is critical to the success of St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of CommonSpirit Health, Dignity Health, and the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy.

 

The Neurology Critical Care Pharmacist

    • Performs order verification and completes kinetics consults for associated hospital areas
    • Provides direct patient care
    • Acts as pharmaceutical consultant to provide drug information to physicians and nurses
    • Precepts pharmacy practice residents and student pharmacists and acts as a resource for College affiliated teaching
    • Engages in primary teaching responsibilities, scholarship, and service at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy
    • Drives pharmacy initiative development and implementation, and provides continued oversight
    • Acts as a pharmacy representative in clinical, quality, and regulatory activities pertaining to the optimal use of medications
    • Contributes to P&T Committee activities as appropriate
    • Actively participates on patient care rounds with providers in a collaborative practice model
    •  Provides comprehensive pharmacotherapy services at the top of her/his license

Qualifications

 Requirements

    • Graduate degree in pharmacy
    • Current Arizona pharmacist license in good standing or ability to obtain an Arizona pharmacist license prior to day 1
    • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

Preferred Qualifications

    • PGY2 Residency in Neurology or Critical Care Pharmacy
    • Two or more years of acute clinical pharmacy experience highly preferred
    • BPS Board Certification (BCPS or BCCCP)
    • ACLS and ENLS Certification
    • Strong clinical pharmacy skills
    • Experience in precepting both pharmacy residents within an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program and APPE students from ACPE accredited Colleges of Pharmacy
    • Evidence of productivity in research or other scholarly activities
    • Experience with Cerner Millennium
