Overview

Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta is a member of the Dignity Health system of health care providers and is a not-for-profit medical facility. We are designated as a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital and are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care Organizations. In addition to our acute care hospital we also own and operate three Rural Health Clinics providing walk-in immediate care as well as scheduled appointments for routine medical needs.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:
 
The Phlebotomist, under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), is responsible for specimen procurement and dispatch. Phlebotomists are required to perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages from newborn to geriatric. The Phlebotomist may be assigned other relevant duties in support of the Laboratory or Patient Access Services.

 

Qualifications

 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completed phlebotomy certification training
  • Current CPT 
  • New graduate OK
  • Training sufficient to maintain registration, On-the-job training as needed
  • Good personal communication skills
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Ability to maneuver quickly and efficiently at the patient’s bedside and within hospital confines
  • Working knowledge of multiple computer systems and software
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn medical terminology
  • Ability to remain calm and function efficiently during difficult or emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate Phlebotomy responsibilities as outlined in the Phlebotomy Procedure manual to trainees
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions as well as understand and adhere to verbal directions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory
  • High School diploma or equivalent
