Position Summary: 

 

Establishes and enforces standards of instrument processing activities, sterilization, and restocking of products to remote locations.  identifies and Maintains the unique processes related to the care and handling, cleaning, sterilization and storage of advanced technology devices that require care over and above surgical instrumentation due to the fragility and higher level of accountability associated with this technology.  assures accuracy by proactively managing daily quality assurance, periodic audits, and implementing improvements as needed. 

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish and maintain an efficient system for processing of surgical instruments and restocking of surgical suppliesthrough the development of department policies and procedures that ensure adequate and proper quantities of reprocessed supplies and equipment to meet patient care demands
  • Analyze daily surgery schedule and preference list to prioritize department workload and avoid potential shortages of instruments and sets
  • Role models appropriate communication skills with staff and other departments, especially in problem resolution
  • Ensures that all products and supplies are handled in a manner consistent with the principles and institutional/departmental policies relating to infection control, sterilizer monitoring, packaging and processing
  • Manages the department quality control and quality improvement programs
  • Coordinates annual and ongoing education of staff, identifies needed training and Develops appropriate plans to meet the needs
  • Provides monthly reports to the manager as required; Provides data for planning, decision‐making improving productivity and problem resolution including development of capital budget
  • Provides a safe working environment; identifies and minimizes potential risk to patients and employees
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain loaner equipment; track incoming and outgoing loaner sets and equipment with appropriate documentation including items borrowed from other hospitals
  • Responsible for working with vendors and purchasing to obtain purchase orders when appropriate for repair or replacement of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment; monitors status of purchase orders

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

Education and Licensure: 

 

  • Associate’s Degree 
  • CRST or CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service  Technician) 
  • GED equivalent and an additional 5 years of related experience can substitute for the Associate’ Degree 

 Minimum Experience: 

  • Three (3) years of CSPD experience or related instrument  management
