Responsibilities

Work in the heart of #humankindess at CHI St. Joseph's Health. As our OR PACU Registered Nurse (RN) you'll be responsible for providing comprehensive post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgical procedures. The PACU RN will monitor patients' vital signs, manage pain, assess for complications, and ensure a safe and smooth transition to the next phase of their recovery. 

 

As a OR Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering the highest quality patient care according to the specific orders of each patient’s individual physician. This will involve, utilizing your knowledge and skills to educate patients and their families on prevention and healthy habits, measuring and recording vitals, administering medication, and preparing patients for surgery.

 

The ideal candidate will have with top-notch clinical skills, calm, responsivent,  a caring attitude, and the ability to work under pressure. It is also important to display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively educate patients and their families on the in-home healthcare process.

 

What you'll do...

 

  • Monitoring patients’ conditions and assessing their needs
  • Collaborating with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients
  • Administering patients’ medications and providing treatments according to physicians’ orders
  • Fostering a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their familie
  • Provide direct patient care in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
  • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.
  • Assess patients' pain levels and administer pain medication as prescribed.
  • Evaluate patients for post-operative complications, such as bleeding, infection, and respiratory distress
  • Implement appropriate interventions to manage complications and ensure patient safety.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and support.
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
  • Assist with patient discharge planning and ensure a safe transition to home or another care setting.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Proficient with airway management.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
     
     

Qualifications

  • Current RN license that allows you to practice in Minnesota.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to be obtained within one year of hire.

Preferred: 

  • Surgery experience preferred.
