Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Engages in laboratory, translational, or clinical research under the direction and guidance of a faculty member, developing skills necessary for success as an independent investigator.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Contributes to mentor-directed research.
  • Demonstrates capabilities to produce quality original research or clinical care.
  • Develops skills in a research and/or clinical specialty
  • Demonstrates potential to launch an extramurally-funded research program.

  • Develops problem solving skills in technical and conceptual components of project execution.
  • Learns to be astute and self-critical in project design, data analysis, and results interpretation.
  • Develops well-defined objectives.
  • Attains research goals.
  • Produces material for publication and/or grant applications.
  • Contributes to teaching and guidance of more junior trainees.
  • Maintains and expands knowledge on general advances in science and medicine and on progress in his/her specific field.
  • Attends and actively participates as a discussant at seminar series presentations and at regional/national scientific/clinical meetings, and presents work results and journal club articles in the mentor's research setting.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
 
Education and Experience:
Ph.D., post-baccalaureate M.D. or D.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant field of endeavor
Laboratory or clinical research at the postbaccalaureate level with an interest in a faculty member's line of study
Beyond minimum required, experience writing research reports concerning own work and familiarity with a biomedical discipline preferred
