Responsibilities

  • Position Summary:

     

    The Nurse Manager is accountable for the day to day operations in Resident Care. It is the Nurse Manager's responsibility to ensure that all resident assistance given either directly or indirectly through staff supervision is according to the philosophy and standards of Mercy McMahon Terrace.

     

    • Provides an environment in which residents can maintain independence to the fullest extent possible in a warm community atmosphere and in privacy with the comforts of home.
    • Coordinates the resident care to meet the requirements for ongoing facility re-licensure by the Department of Social Services.
    • Is a member of the Management Team of Mercy McMahon Terrace and assumes responsibilities flowing from membership in that body.
    • Supervises the day to day activities of staff including the setting of schedules and assignment of responsibilities for the care given to residents.
    • Accomplishes the tasks in the most timely and cost-efficient manner.
    • Maintains major equipment in Resident Care area in a good and safe stat of repair and operating condition.
    • Controls and monitors staff and supply budgets.
    • Maintains Resident Care area in an organized manner.
    • Supervises the job performance of staff giving treatments and medications and assisting residents with activities of daily living.
    • Supervises the actions of staff carrying out doctors' prescriptions, and documentation of such actions.
    • Supervises the assistance provided by staff to any resident undergoing any major problem situation.
    • Manages the transfer or residents to health care facilities for care or authorizes the use of an ambulance when the condition of the resident warrants such an action.
    • Problem solves complaints of residents and families relating to staff performance.
    • Interviews and hires staff.
    • Designs and provides a departmental orientation program for resident care staff (Resident Care Aides).
    • Recommends the personal care staff member moving from orientation to permanent employment.
    • Meets at least quarterly with each resident staff person for a documented work progress review.
    • Assesses and provides progressive counseling to staff members to improve work performance.
    • Is responsible for initiating disciplinary action including counseling, warding and termination actions for specific employees within the line of supervision.
    • Recommends staff for individual recognition as well as facility wide recognition activities.
    • Facilitates regular departmental staff meetings.
    • Maintains a positive working relationship with other departments.
    • Attends Management meetings.
    • Takes Administrative Call as necessary.
    • Maintains records, Policy and Procedure Manual for Resident Care.
    • Attends workshops or training sessions to improve job skills or knowledge.
    • Performs other duties as necessary or directed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be able to express or demonstrate an interest in working with senior’s population as well as other staff.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Director of Care in a position having some contact with the elderly population.
  • Management experience.
  • Able to manage supply inventory and budget. 
  • Able to manage a diverse staff of 45+
  • Knowledge of Title 22 and RCFE CA regulations preferred
  • LVN/RN preferred
