Responsibilities

Serves at the executive level providing leadership in the delivery of nursing care, treatment, and services. Has direct line authority for the Critical Care Service Lines. Has the primary responsibility for establishing and ensuring clinical patient care standards are achieved in a cost‐effective manner. Establish nursing services consistent with the overall hospital values and goals and to provide a practice environment to assure CHI St. Luke's as an employer of choice. Has the authority and responsibility for meeting the bottom lines of quality and financial performance for the areas of accountability. The position also has matrix responsibility for all nursing positions throughout the hospital to ensure that appropriate standards of care are met.

  • Collaborates with executive and clinical leadership to shape strategic plans, budgets, and operational priorities across critical care services.

  • Leads the development and implementation of a nursing mission, vision, and strategic plan aligned with organizational goals.

  • Provides executive oversight of patient care delivery, including staffing models, care standards, and regulatory compliance for critical care units.

  • Drives quality and performance improvement initiatives using data and nursing-sensitive indicators to enhance outcomes and patient safety.

  • Ensures a safe, high-reliability care environment by proactively monitoring clinical risks, partnering with interdisciplinary teams, and optimizing workflows.

  • Mentors and develops nursing leaders through coaching, shared decision-making, and succession planning.

  • Manages capital and operating budgets for patient care areas, identifying cost-saving strategies while maintaining high standards of care.

  • Represents nursing at senior leadership forums and collaborates with medical staff to align priorities and foster clinical integration.

  • Champions staff engagement and retention through consistent communication, professional development programs, and a culture of accountability.

  • Leads or contributes to the evaluation and integration of clinical technologies that support high-acuity care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Education, License and Experience: 

  • Master’s Degree
  • Registered Nurse 
  • Recent Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit experience.
  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years experience in progressive management roles, or the equivalent, with a sound knowledge of clinical nursing, management, and quality enhancement.
  • Excellent clinical and business skills,  management skills suitable for a complex tertiary level patient care setting.

  • Breadth of knowledge of all areas of patient care.
  • Knowledge of device utilization in the critical care space.
