Responsibilities

This job is responsible for planning, managing and evaluating the invasive cardiovascular operations and activities of the assigned hospital/outpatient sites in accordance with the professional standards of the clinical disciplines and applicable regulatory requirements.  An incumbent ensures effective clinical operations by focusing on maximizing utilization of clinical resources, addressing/strengthening patient safety, enhancing relationships with clinical providers, achieving desired clinical outcomes and facilitating achievement of overall financial goals and business/patient satisfaction objectives.  

Work also includes:  1) managing daily operations associated with multi-site patient/nursing care delivery; 2) working with vendors to coordinate cost-effective management of resources; 3) recommending/implementing policies/procedures that guide and support the provision of services; 4) monitoring/evaluating community needs and the programs of competitive hospitals to develop recommendations for new services; and 5) overseeing/evaluating the work of subordinate clinical staff.  

Work is performed in accordance with established standards/guidelines and professional standards and requires knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements sufficient to ensure compliant operations and to exercise judgment and critical thinking in addressing operational and/or regulatory issues.  Work also requires knowledge of the cardiac cath lab/electrophysiology operations, protocols and equipment.   

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or a related discipline, OR 1) graduation from an accredited school of nursing; OR  2)  Successful completion of a two-year Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist or Radiological Technologist program; 

AND 

five years of progressively responsible related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including two years in a supervisory or management capacity.   

Equivalent additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for up to two years of the Bachelor’s degree requirement.

Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Job Knowledge/Abilities:

Knowledge of the practices, standards, techniques, legal requirements and tools/equipment/supplies applicable to general and intensive care/cardiac nursing, including the pathology of heart disease.

Knowledge of the content, intent and application of federal and state standards and regulatory requirements pertaining to matters within designated scope of responsibility.

Knowledge of the standards, practices, technologies and clinical operations relating to invasive cardiovascular services.

Knowledge of safety/risk management and regulatory accreditation/survey processes relating to health care organizations.

Knowledge of current trends, issues and research in treatment, prevention and education as they relate to QI in a large medical services system.

Knowledge of the function and application of automated systems applicable to the assigned clinical area.

Ability to identify operational/compliance deficiencies and/or systemic weaknesses as they relate to market share and/or physician satisfaction and determine timely corrective action to forestall or remedy. 

Ability to express ideas and convey information effectively in verbal and written communication.

Ability to keep abreast of trends, emerging technologies, clinical research, best practices and new/changing regulatory requirements impacting matters within designated scope of authority.

Ability to present, explain and interpret management/clinical data in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains consensus among individuals having different priorities, requirements and resources.

Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory skills, including developing clear performance expectations, hiring, coaching, conflict management, evaluating, resolving performance problems, and group facilitation.

Ability to develop and implement effective policies, standards and procedures relating to matters under defined scope of responsibility.

Ability to identify compliance deficiencies and/or systemic weaknesses and implement timely corrective action to forestall or remedy.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations as required by the duties of the position.

Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level of proficiency.

Licensure/Certification

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Washington State Department of Licensing; OR

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and Washington State Certification as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist., OR

American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) and Washington state Certification as a Radiologic Technologist. 

Current Health Care Provider BLS certification.

Current ACLS Certification. 

Bachelor’s degree in related field is required. Five years of relevant clinical experience and three years of increasingly responsible supervisory experience is also required. In addition, the person in this role has excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as an understanding of budgets and financial planning.

 

A Master’s degree MSN, MHA, MBA or other related healthcare field, is preferred.
